About

A band with a backstory worth keeping.

Mitch Heard and Karl Henricksen first met in a Framingham, Massachusetts middle school homeroom in September 1994. Heard... Henricksen. In sequence. Dazed, confused, and close enough in the alphabet to become best friends for life.

Through childhood and adolescence, they traded influences in real time: scratchy Kurt Cobain phrasing, funky Chili Peppers guitar lines, thunderous Metallica instinct, Gang Starr backbeats, MPC discipline, and the thrill of building identity through sound.

Then came the expected split. Karl became a road-seasoned frontman and solo performer, chasing the romance of live rooms and long nights. Mitch went to New York City, taking his production mind into the lineage of DJ Premier, sample architecture, drum programming, and eventually Prince-inspired synth songwriting.

When both paths bent toward New York, the reunion clicked fast. Each recognized in the other the exact ingredients the project needed. Banjoshi emerged as a collision of two complete musical personalities: one instinctive, natural, and wild; the other crafted, elegant, and obsessively original.

That tension is the point. Banjoshi songs feel playful without being careless, stylized without being cold, and emotionally alive without losing their sense of fun. It is a musical boutique built from history, contrast, and real chemistry.
